Hi Friends!
To commemorate five years of recording and releasing music as The Currawongs I've done a "deconstruction" of the debut EP from 2014 and released this 10 track 2019 edition. The Currawongs - Deconstructed features live recordings, demos, stand-alone field recordings and an unreleased track from the original sessions with Cameron Smith at Incremental Records during April 2014.
The cover for this release also features an inverted image of the original cover artwork by Stephen Mok.
You should check out some his amazing artwork here:

Life for this release started off as an exercise in trying to remember how to play the guitar tracks The Currawongs, Sometimes I Know and Other Birds from the original EP before deciding that I really should do something to mark five years since the release of the debut EP.
It was a lot of fun remembering how to play and record live versions of those guitar tracks at The Bathroom to present a 2019 version of them. They're a little rough, but hey, anything goes when recording at The Bathroom.
I also had a great time deconstructing the original tracks into their initial separate pieces of field recordings, music and noise, as well as re-discovering the original recordings of the Farfisa tracks Red Chamber Emergency and One More Before I Walk Out The Door.
I ran out of time when recording The Currawongs EP in 2014, and therefore didn't end up recording the track Atmospheric Pressure (originally titled Arthritis And The Rain). I initially intended for this song to lead into One More Before I Walk Out The Door so have presented the original demo of that recording here. I wouldn't mind re-recording this track properly some day.
Also included in this release is the extended Farfisa Phaser Drone. Part of this recording was tacked onto the ending of One More Before I Walk Out The Door, and later as an intro to The Return, the first track from the Cracticidae album.
And lastly, to round off the release is the Reprise for Red Chamber Emergency which was mixed and mastered with the original EP in 2014, however left off the EP for some reason. I'm thinking maybe because One More Before I Walk Out The Door seemed like the better closer for the EP, though I can't really remember.
I wanted to present the 10 tracks as a collection of curios for this release, and I think I've pretty much done that.
Anyway, I hope you all have as much fun listening to this release as I had putting it all together.
Ross
